Caleb Bailey was making his way southward yesterday from his home in Virginia, heading for Cherokee, NC where he and his band, Caleb Bailey & Paine’s Run were scheduled to appear at the North Carolina State Bluegrass Festival.
They were on I-81 South near Marion, VA when things took a very dangerous turn.
Let’s have him explain.
“Yes sir… it was a close one. A wreck occurred in front of us, a Chevy Tahoe had flipped and blocked the roadway causing everyone to immediately break. We were rear-ended and driven into a Bob-tailed semi, and subsequently hit four times, spinning us 180°.
My grandmother has sustained a broken leg in the accident. She is at every Caleb Bailey & Paine’s Run show, and has travelled thousands of miles with us over years from Fairfield, ME to Nashville. She will likely have a long road to recover. She was initially taken to Smith Community in Marion, but was transported last evening back to Harrisonburg.
My bass player, Brandon Kyle’s, 1940 Kay sustained heavy damage to the neck but may be repairable. My Ford Expedition, my trailer and my sound equipment are likely total losses. Brandon Kyle and my fiddle player, Caleb Dodd, did not have any injuries.
We appreciate the outpouring of support from our bluegrass family. The prayers and well wishes have been a bright spot in a terrible day.”
