He’s ba-a-a-a-a-a-ck.
Doyle Lawson is back with a new version of Quicksilver and a brand new single to share on Turnberry Records. Yes, he did retire from full-time touring at the end of 2021, but he never said he was finished with music. So the indefatigable Doyle has put together a band to perform more sporadically than had been his custom, and is recording new music again of the highest calibre.
For his first new music in more than five years he has chosen The Signs, written by Donna Ulisse and Alan Alley, about the struggles people hold inside, even when they are putting a brave face on to conceal the pain.
Doyle says that he finds the message powerful and relatable.
“When I heard this song, I knew that we had to record it because of the lyrics relating to today’s outlook on life in general. I feel certain that many will agree when they hear the story.”
Something else Lawson has been known for is his ability to draw top pickers and singers to his efforts, and he has done so yet again. The incomparable John Meador is playing guitar and singing lead, with Doyle on mandolin and harmony vocal, Aubrey Haynie on fiddle, and Josh Swift on reso-guitar, bass, and percussion. Ben James adds a tenor vocal.
It’s a lovely song, impeccably performed and recorded.
