The Old Fiddlers Convention, held this past 90 years in Galax, VA, has announced a special birthday gift for 2026 contestants.
To celebrate this milestone, prize money is being raised to $22,000 for the August 3-8 convention. They are increasing the number of places where winners will receive cash awards, and increasing the amount given to first prize competitors.
The following changes are in effect for this year:
- 15 places in bluegrass and old time band will receive cash prizes
- 10 places in the individual instrument competitions will receive cash prizes
- All first place cash awards are being raised by $100
- All second place cash awards are being raised by $50
Important note: the registration deadline to compete in 2026 is rapidly approaching! All registration forms must be sent by postal mail, and be postmarked by July 15, just two days from now. The form can be downloaded from the convention web site, where you’ll also find the address to which it should be sent.
As always, the convention is managed and sponsored by Galax Moose Lodge #733, though this year they are coordinating with the Center for Cultural Vibrancy, with additional sponsorship from Deering Banjos.
