Watertown from Cheryl Watson

Event Details

Cheryl Watson is a bluegrass singer, songwriter and instrumentalist in central Florida with a new CD of her original music.

Watertown contains 13 tracks, 12 of them Watson’s, plus a version of Beaumont Rag. Cheryl plays mandolin and sings lead with help from Jason Thomas on fiddle, Gabe Valla on guitar, Jack Piccalo on banjo, Teri LaMarco on bass, and Scott Sweet and Gary Goldsmith on resonator guitar.

Watson shared a few words about her writing style, along with a few audio samples from the CD.

“My songs come from a combination of personal experience, and other people’s trials and tribulations. I write when I am inspired, when ideas come to me out of the blue; sometimes in the middle of the night in a dream. I have a hard time writing a truly happy song, but a song cannot be written with the intent to bring on the tears or I find it contrived. Songs have to hit you honestly and in the gut; I prefer lyrics that are cathartic and say something redeeming and meaningful.

The music and the lyrics have to have chemistry together; they have to be married to each other and that is one of the most challenging things about songwriting.”
