James McDowell to Carolina Blue

Event Details

James McDowellA few weeks ago, we posted that Carolina Blue, a traditional bluegrass band in western, NC, was in need of a banjo player. They have now announced that they found him, living right amongst them in Etowah.

The band has welcomed James McDowell into the fold, a young picker with a passion for bluegrass and Don Reno-style banjo.

James says that he has been playing since he was fourteen years old, and that he is grateful for the chance to tour with this group that perfectly suits his tastes in music.

“I’m thankful to the Lord, to allow me this opportunity, and to Carolina Blue for taking me on and letting me play. Also, thanks to my family and former band mates for the support. Special thanks to my mentor Sam Cox.”

He joins founders Bobby Powell on guitar and Tim Jones on mandolin, with Reese Combs on bass, and often, Merl Johnson on fiddle.

Check the Carolina Blue web site for more details and the band tour schedule.
