Todd Shue passes

Event Details

Todd Shue

Central North Carolina mandolinist, Todd Shue, 62, passed away suddenly on March 8, 2026. Todd was the son of the late banjoist and luthier Bob Shue of Concord.

Todd performed in the band, Southern Junction, singing tenor and sometimes lead with his dad on banjo and his late brother, Terry, on bass. Their band, also known as Carolina Mountain Boys and Southern Run at different times, won many area fiddlers’ conventions over the years, recorded an album, and appeared on the Arthur Smith Show on television in Charlotte, NC. The mandolin that Todd picked was built by his daddy.

Vivian Pennington Hopkins, former North Carolina Bluegrass Association President, recalled…

“Todd was a great mandolin player and one of the best tenor singers around. My brother, Johnny, was a long-time member of the band, playing guitar and singing lead vocals. They had some of the best harmony of any band in their time.”

No formal services are planned at this time.

R.I.P., Todd Shue
