Grascals file counter suit against Webster

grascalsWe reported last month that a suit had been brought against The Grascals by Entertainment Evolution, a company managed by Nashville publicist Kirt Webster. At the time, the band offered no comment on the merits of the suit.

Now, a countersuit has been filed by The Grascals, refuting the charges that they had reneged on a management contract with Webster, and indicating that they had only at “at will” agreement for his services. The suit further alleges a degree of impropriety regarding Webster’s dealings with Cracker Barrel about sales of the band’s Country Classics with a Bluegrass Spin CD, and whether the share of proceeds set aside for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital had been fully paid.

They also assert that Webster booked the band for shows at low wages, and occasionally at a loss, to benefit his other clients at The Grascals expense.

Ugly stuff. We’ll be keeping an eye on how this is resolved.

As you might expect, the band did not wish to comment on the legal proceedings, but instead focus on their career moving forward.

Jamie Johnson tells us…

“We are heading to Alabama today for a theatre show, and then back to Nashville for the SPBGMA awards Sunday. We’re excited to see some bluegrass friends!

The Grascals are looking forward to a great 2012 with our new album, Life Finds A Way, to be released on the Mountain Home Music label in March. Keep an eye on www.grascals.com for further information.”
