This Weary Road from Larry Cordle

Larry Cordle

The Great One, The Mighty Cord himself, has a new single, one he wrote called This Weary Road.

Cordle explained a bit about the genesis of the song, which he says came out of the COVID shutdowns.

“Once again, I must thank the pandemic for inspiring another song. As East Kentucky Blues was born out of the need for something to remind me what it is I do for a living, so was This Weary Road, born of the same necessity.

I got so bored and bummed out watching every streaming thing imaginable that I started to think about song ideas. This Weary Road was created during that horrible time in all musicians’ lives… the great shutdown.

Anyway, I got to thinking about how hard the road is, how tiring it always is, but yet, the excitement of the next town, the adrenaline rush of the next crowd, the elusive promise of the big time—whatever that is. It’s how we earn a living, and just the thought of life without going out to play is unimaginable to me. I realized I was missing it terribly. Missing the bustle, the camaraderie, the struggle to find new venues, the hotel nightmares, the willingness to put everything on the line just to keep chasing the elusive dream. In a way, it’s sort of like an addiction, or maybe a jealous mistress.

Anyway, I was thinking of the miles I’ve been privileged to travel and all the shows I’ve been fortunate enough to play. It’s a second home for most of us, and often it’s so very hard on relationships. Still, we soldier on, giving every last ounce we can muster, for the love/hate relationship we have with that weary road.”

It’s pure Cordle. See what you think.

This Weary Road is available now from popular download and streaming services online, and to radio programmers via AirPlay Direct.
