Ryan Cavanaugh hits EU

Progressive banjo icon Ryan Cavanaugh is touring this month in Europe with jazz saxophonist Bill Evans, in support of Evans’ new release, Dragonfly.

The album is the third release with Evans’ Soulgrass band, which mixes his contemporary jazz with elements of modern acoustic string music – including Ryan’s banjo playing.

Here’s a track from the new album, which is available for listening on the Bill Evans site.

Ryan gave us a quick rundown of their itinerary…

“The tour started in Cork, Ireland on October 29th with Randy Brecker sitting in on trumpet.

The band will now hit Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Turkey, and Italy.

Bill Evans is on saxophones, myself on banjo, Mitch Stein on electric guitar, Josh Dion on drums and vocals, and African/euro bassist extraordinaire Etienne Mbappe.”
