Bill Evans has shared some photos from his recent California Banjo Extravaganza. For the second year in a row, he brought a pair of prominent banjo pickers out west for a weekend of shows and workshops in northern California.
This year it was Sammy Shelor and Tony Trischka, both celebrated wherever banjo music is enjoyed, but who rarely make it out to the left coast in their travels. Bill put together a band of top California pickers, and played with Tony and Sammy at a number of venues, November 14-17.
Assisting were Jim Nunally on guitar, John Reischman on mandolin, Chad Manning on fiddle, and Sharon Gilchrist on bass. Â Bill told us that it was fascinating to watch and listen to this bunch of ezra talented players adapt their approach and where they focused the rhythm based on the different ways each banjo player
Three different photographers contributed to this report: Dan Moriarity, Mike Melnyk, and Steve Haimovitz.
