This first effort was very successful with the campground sold out in advance of the festival. The weather was very good, and the entertainment was superb.

Festivities started Wednesday evening with a fish fry and potluck, followed by an open stage and karaoke hosted by Greg Bird. Thursday saw the first band shows. Unfortunate circumstances caused two of the scheduled bands to have to cancel. Nothin’ Fancy and Chris Henry & Hardcore Grass filled in. Tuck Tucker and Chris Henry did a couple sets as a duo. Tuck, a songwriter and top-notch dobro player based in Florida, had played with Chris’ parents, Red and Murphy Henry, in the early 80’s.

They jammed and Chris was so impressed, he brought the young man on stage during his final set to play. Local band, Blast of Grass performed a couple sets of music. Remington Ryde from Pennsylvania spent two days performing. The Little Roy & Lizzie Show closed out on Saturday. Little Roy is still the highest energy person in bluegrass music!

Newell Lodge along with Ernie and Debi Evans will host its first Gospel festival this weekend, October 29, 30, and 31.
