Josh Slone & Coaltown

Event Details

Rural Rhythm Records has this week released the debut, self-titled album from Kentucky’s Josh Slone & Coaltown.

The band is fronted by guitarist and lead vocalist Slone, supported by Billy Berger on mandolin, Ollie Risner on banjo, and Gary Wiley on bass. Guests on the CD include Ron Stewart on fiddle, Matt Despain and Kim Gardner on resonator guitar, and Gerald Evans on fiddle (recorded before Evans passed away on April 10, 2010).

The bulk of the material on this record was written by Mike Wells (9 of 13), including this initial single, Virginia Bound.

It’s soulful bluegrass, with a country flavor. As Don Rigsby states in the liner notes:

“Kentucky has been one of the primary sources for great Bluegrass Singers. After all Bill Monroe was born and raised here! Josh Slone is just the latest of the bunc When he sings you can hear the East Kentucky just pourin’ from his mouth.”

Radio service for Josh Slone & Coaltown is available through Airplay Direct, where you can hear the whole CD online.
