Radio Bristol’s Pick One program with Larry Gorley and Linda Wright will be hosting two bluegrass heavyweights in the studio Saturday morning, August 1, at 10:00 a.m.
Doyle Lawson and Tim Stafford will be with Larry and Linda in the studio to talk about Lawson’s lengthy and noteworthy career in bluegrass music. Starting out with Jimmy Martin in 1963 playing banjo, he has worked steadily as an entertainer since that time. Important stints with J.D. Crowe, The Country Gentlemen, and his own band, Quicksilver, came along in time.
Lawson is sure to talk about having revived Quicksilver as a part-time endeavor since he retired from the road and gave up the band at the end of 2021. Not only has he revived the group, made up primarily of former members of Quicksilver and John Meador, they are recording now for a new album. A debut single will be released in August.
Tim will be on hand to share his own perspective on the history of bluegrass, and the upcoming Blue Highway Fest in Big Stone Gap, VA in October.
Radio Bristol is a project of the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol, VA, and can be heard locally at 100.1 FM. The signal is also carried online via live streaming, accessible to anyone with a signal.
