Pinecastle Recording has a new single for Red Camel Collective, the relatively new group led by powerhouse vocalist Heather Berry Mabe.
The band is essentially Junior Sisk’s touring outfit, minus Junior, with Heather on guitar and vocals, Tony Mabe on banjo, Johnathan Dillon on mandolin, and Curt Love on bass. They are joined on this latest release, Daughter of the Stars, by Stephen Burwell on fiddle.
This is a song that Heather wrote, which they have decided to make into a tribute to the women of bluegrass music. She has put together a lovely video to present it ahead of the album’s February 21 release. It cleverly features photos of current bluegrass gals, paired with a childhood image, as the lyrics of the song are addressed to little girls in particular.
Heather says of this compelling song…
“When writing Daughter of the Stars, I imagined that I was writing a letter to my childhood self. I had plenty to say.
The lyrics to this song came so quickly, I had it written in about 15 minutes or so.
The song tells that inner little girl that she is loved, seen, heard, and beautiful, that she is enough. It encourages her to love and accept herself for who she is, and not let the negativity of others steal the light that she was created to carry.
This has been a healing song for me, and my hope is that it will be that for everyone who listens, especially women. In a modern world that has placed so much value on the outward appearance, may this song be a reminder that our true value comes from who we are, and that has little to nothing to do with what we look like.”
