Another banjo raffle for Al Osteen

Following the success of their October raffle to raise money for popular South Carolina banjo picker Al Osteen, Preserving Our Southern Appalachian Music (POSAM) and Young Appalachian Musicians (YAM) are sponsoring a second similar fundraiser.

Osteen has been an influential picker and instructor in the Palmetto State for many years, giving a head start to such notable banjoists as Kristin Scott Benson and Charles Wood. As he is undergoing chemo for cancer treatment, the music community in Pickens, SC is banding together to help Al with his medical expenses.

This second raffle is for a 1931 Vega Whyte Laydie banjo with a reproduction neck and new ‘bump’ case. Tickets are being offered for $10, with the winner announced on December 19 at a benefit concert for Al in Pickens.
