Vancouver singer and songwriter Mary Garnett Edwards has released a new single, one she wrote with a dark and foreboding story, perfectly suited for her gritty and soulful voice.
Singing and writing since she was ten, Edwards has left a wide mark on the Canadian music scene, working both the bluegrass and country music sides of the street.
Boneyard is her latest effort, a haunting tale of poverty, desperation, and betrayal, which ends in tragedy. No smiles in this one.
Mary is supported here by Andreas Schuld on guitars and guitalele, Chas Williams on reso-guitar, Stu MacDonald on bass, and Gord Maxwell on harmony vocals, Canadians all.
She sounds as though she is living every word as it is sung. Have a listen.
