It was a good run… 60 plus years. But now, based on the testimony of a janitor/banjo player in rural West Virginia, it has come to an end.
Hiram “Tootie” Walker says that the image of Bill Monroe appeared in a piece of toast while he was breakfasting at Dottie’s Diner outside of Veasley this morning. After rubbing his eyes and swallowing another cup of coffee, Tootie claims that the image spoke to him, saying that bluegrass music was a big mistake. He further quotes his toast as saying that bluegrass music “ain’t no part of nothing,” and that “Elvis was right” and we should all start playing hillbilly rock.
When contacted with this news, Dan Hays of IBMA replied, “Well, I guess that’s it then,” and turned out the lights.
