Benefit concert for Rick Bartley

Event Details

rickb2Kentucky’s Bartley Brothers have been involved in bluegrass since they were youngsters, adding up to more years than they may want to admit. Shayne and Rick have worked with a number of top touring bands, including their own Bartley Brothers band. Rick is also known as a fine songwriter, having contributed I’m a Hobo to the final J.D. Crowe & the New South album, Lefty’s Old Guitar, and Blue Side of the Blue Ridge, title track of the 2008 Junior Sisk CD.

Currently, younger brother Shayne is playing banjo with American Drive, and he shared some unfortunate news late last week as regards big brother Rick.

On April 24, Rick and Dorothy Bartley had their home destroyed by fire. Shayne says that they lost everything they owned, other than a car and a camper. One can only imagine the dislocation this must cause, on top of the shock and sense of loss.

Shayne and several other bluegrass artists have banded together for a benefit concert, as you knew they would. It’s scheduled for May 16 at Morgan County Fairgrounds in West Liberty, KY where an admission fee of $20 is suggested. Additional donations will be accepted.

While a number of artists are expected to come aboard, the headlining group will include Shayne on guitar, Michael Cleveland on fiddle, J.D. Crowe on banjo, Curt Chapman on bass, and Chris Davis on mandolin. That’s worth $20 any day of the week.

Folks who are unable to attend the show may make a contribution by sending a check or money order, made out to Rick Bartley, to Shayne at the following address:

Shayne Bartley
112 Sardula Place
Georgetown, KY 40324
