Lyons, Colorado hosted the 54th annual RockyGrass Festival July 24-26 with a three-day total attendance estimated at 13,500 music fans. The festival, produced by Planet Bluegrass, featured headliners I’m With Her, Sam Bush, and The Punch Brothers along with other local and national touring musicians.
Festivarians not only enjoyed performances on the main stage but also campground jamming, instrument and band contests, yoga classes, vendors and food trucks. Many took advantage of the cool waters of the St. Vrain river as temperatures approached 100 degrees during the weekend.
The town of 2,100 people sits in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains between Boulder and Estes Park at an altitude of 5,374 feet, and provides a spectacular setting and supportive vibe as Lyons has a vibrant year-round music community. These elements create a wonderful festival attracting fans of all ages, including families with young children.
Among the other performers were The Kruger Brothers, Willie Watson, Tim O’Brien, Rhiannon Giddens & The Old Time Revue, The Del McCoury Band, Tony Trischka, and The Steep Canyon Rangers. Michael Cleveland and Béla Fleck also sat in with Sam Bush.
