The final day of the 2015 Charlotte Bluegrass Festival was kicked off by one of Michigan’s favorite bands, Out of the Blue. Donna Ulisse and the Poor Mountain Boys made their first appearance at the Charlotte festival. Donna’s heartfelt songs keep an audience enthralled.
Larry Cordle and Lonesome Standard Time made his first Michigan appearance in a long time to the crowd’s delight. Larry was presented a walking stick to commemorate his career. The stick was designed by Ron Benton and carved by “Chopper”. Bill Warren made the presentation on behalf of the Southeast Michigan Bluegrass Music Association and Larry’s Michigan fans.
Donna gave a songwriting workshop in the afternoon to explain her methods of writing. Hometown favorite, Audie Blaylock and Redline, brought his own music along with memories of Jimmy Martin to the Charlotte stage. Adkins and Loudermilk made their Charlotte debut with their high energy, traditional bluegrass sound. Donna Ulisse and Larry Cordle performed a couple of songs together. Michigan bassist and soon to be music major at Michigan State University, Katelynn Lowe was invited to the stage to do a number with Larry Cordle.
The Lonesome River Band closed out the show in their usual fine fashion. Randy Jones, mandolinist, made one of his final appearances with LRB. Jesse Smathers made his debut with LRB. Randy will close out his LRB stint at Rudyfest.
