I Belong To Love – Larkin Poe

larkinA few years ago we reported regularly on a young sibling trio from Georgia, who performed as The Lovell Sisters. Jessica, Rebecca and Megan Lovell were teen pickers and singers who turned quite a few heads with their lovely voices and adept work on fiddle, guitar, mandolin and resonator guitar.

When Jessica, the elder sister, chose to take her leave to start college and get married in 2010, Rebecca and Megan rebranded as Larkin Poe. Even prior to this change, the girls had begun moving away from bluegrass, and several projects under the new name have shown that their modern acoustic sound is well outside the boundaries of what is currently understood as bluegrass, though clearly informed by the discipline.

Still, we thought that readers might enjoy this new Larkin Poe video to see what these talented ladies are up to these days. It demonstrates that Rebecca has grown into a mature and compelling vocalist, and Megan an assured slidester, with both still in their early twenties

The song is I Belong To Love, which will be included on their upcoming collaboration project with Norwegian singer/songwriter Thom Hell, The Sound Of The Ocean Sound. Larkin Poe has a strong following in the UK and Europe, and will be returning there again this Spring for an extended tour.

The video was produced and directed by Hallgrim Haug, and edited by Johan Moen.

The Sound Of The Ocean Sound

Rebecca tells us that The Sound Of The Ocean Sound is set for a March 1 release on Norway’s Edvin Records. Physical distribution of the LP will be limited to Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and the UK, but fans elsewhere will be able to purchase it digitally via iTunes and Amazon.

You can keep up with Larkin Poe online.
