Red Shipley and Stained Glass Bluegrass

Just as I’ve learned that what separates the great pickers and singers from the others, is the taste they have learned from experience and that they show in their work, so was it with Red Shipley. His taste was shown by what he chose to play on SGBG. Perhaps as Bill Monroe sometimes complemented a sideman with the comment about “a good note,” I can complement Red Shipley with “a good selection.” I will miss his superb taste in the music he chose to play.
