New single from Marty and Del

Event Details

Marty Raybon is set to release a single from his upcoming compilation release, Pick Of The Litter: A Collection of Fan Favorites. This will be all bluegrass/acoustic project combining selections from a number of Marty’s previous releases, plus a couple of new songs, coming out on Raybon’s Synchoro label.

The single is Mountain Fever, one of the newly-recorded tracks featuring a duet between Marty and Del McCoury, with Marty’s brother Tim singing the third part. Daniel Grindstaff is on banjo with Steve Thomas and Jason Carter on twin fiddles, Chris Davis on mandolin and Kevin Grant on bass.

The song was released by the Osborne Brothers on their classic Essential Bluegrass double album in 1979, and banjo man Grindstaff tells us that it was no accident that it ended up on Marty’s new CD.

“Marty, Tim and I are huge Osborne Brother fans and we have incorporated several of their obscure older songs into our sets; this happened to be one of them. The Osbornes did it as a duet with Bobby and Mac Wiseman, and when we cut it Steve Thomas thought Del Would be a great fit for the song. Of course, Del nailed the tenor line as only he can do!”

Daniel says that the single will be available during IBMA week later this month, and that Marty and his bluegrass band will be heading into the studio after IBMA to start work on a bluegrass Gospel project slated for a Spring 2011 release.
