Alan Jackson’s bluegrass album, appropriately though controversially titled, The Bluegrass Album, has won the first annual Golden Boot award from the popular country music web site, The Boot.
Winners were selected by an online ballot, and Alan more than doubled his closest competitor.
The Bluegrass Album was something of a sensation when it was first released last Summer. After several years of teasing fans about making a bluegrass record, Jackson hired a passel of superpickers to track with him, including Sammy Shelor on banjo, Adam Steffey on mandolin, Tim Dishman on bass, Rob Ickes on reso, Tim Crouch on fiddle, and Alan’s regular guitar man Scott Coney on guitar. Don Rigsby and Ronnie Bowman were drafted to sing harmony.
A number of tracks from the record have spent time on our Bluegrass Today Weekly Airplay chart, and two videos (shot live at Nashville’s Station Inn) have been prominent on country music channels.
