Great news – Herschel Sizemore in remission

Pioneering bluegrass mandolinist Herschel Sizemore has spent the past few months battling a cancer in his throat, undergoing radiation treatments since October of last year.

Today he spoke with both his ENT and his oncologist, who both gave him a clean bill of health. Physicians like to avoid the phrase “cancer free,” as medical science is unable to predict what may or may not recur, but as of today, all indications are that his cancer is gone.

Herschel told us that his doctors said that he could be the poster boy for successful radiation therapy, and that he never once wavered in his faith that he would beat this disease.

He is also eager to hear from his many friends in the bluegrass world. Herschel can be reached by email at hlsizmo@aol.com, and cards can be sent to:

5720 Barns Ave. NW
Roanoke VA 24019

Joyce Sizemore, Herschel’s wife, is also a familiar face to a great many musicians and bluegrass fans. She is almost finished her radiation and chemotherapy for a breast cancer that was discovered the very same day as Herschel’s. Let’s all hope to hear some great news from Joyce soon as well!
