Josh Shilling, Mountain Heart’s bluesy lead singer, has released a Christmas single. It’s his pared-down version of the perennial Mel Torme classic, The Christmas Song.
With just Josh’s voice and his piano, this track recalls how Shilling plied his trade prior to coming aboard with Mountain Heart. Though now primarily playing guitar on stage, Josh had previously spent his musical career playing keyboards and singing with rhythm & blues and southern rock groups.
The recording was initially envisioned as a simple Christmas gift for his family, but the response when a video was posted on YouTube was such that Josh decided to make it more widely available online.
Here’s the video in question. It’s a moving rendition of this modern Christmas anthem.
