Smilin’ Dave gets shorn

Today was the day! Songwriter, Bluegrass Today correspondent, and noted bluegrass bon vivant David Morris went under the knife… or I should say, the clippers… in honor of bluegrass buddy John Miller, who is now completing the last of his treatments for tongue and throat cancer.

In a weak moment, Morris promised to shave his head if anyone made a donation of $500 to Miller’s relief fund. Given his reputation as a jolly jokester, that pledge came in within minutes of the announcement. So, a shearing was scheduled for September 28 in the Eastman booth during World of Bluegrass.

And so it has transpired. Here’s the proof.

Everyone who donated to the relief fund was entered in a drawing to win an E-10D guitar, donated by Eastman Guitars. Congratulations to Robert Thompson of Herndon, VA who will be getting a nice package in the mail this week.

John Miller will still have a few months of recovery before he can work again. If you are able and so inclined, checks in John’s name, can be sent to:

Carter Bank and Trust
370 Arbor Drive
Christiansburg VA 24073

Please write John Miller fund in the memo section of your check.
