Chris Mullins is the visionary behind northern California’s Newtime Stringband, and an experienced educator both in the classroom on online. With the band, he presents an interesting fusion of bluegrass with folk musics of the world; as a teacher, he has offered his wisdom in college settings, K-12 classrooms, and in private sessions.
Drawing on those two threads, Chris has released a children’s book called Sing, Sam. Sing! about a young boy who loves to sing, even though his friends don’t exactly celebrate his vocalizations. In a clever and humorous story, Sam is encouraged to continue singing all the same, and we read that he becomes a much better singer through perseverance.
By the end, Sam has become renowned for his singing, but he still sings simply for the joy of it.
Parents and grandparents will appreciate the message of determination and persistence, shared throughout this 35-page book, appropriate for reading to very young children, and for the libraries of up to eight-year-olds.
Sing, Sam. Sing! is available from Amazon for $11.99.
