Run Away video from Cody Hull

If the name Cody Hull sounds familiar, there’s a good reason. He’s the older brother of bluegrass/Americana darling Sierra Hull, and the two grew up playing bluegrass together as youngsters.

And like his little sis, Cody has embarked on a career recording his original acoustic music with a bluegrass vibe. His new album, Run Away, was released last month recorded with help from Sierra, Justin Moses, and Joe Smith.

To introduce the record and his music, he’s also created a music video for the title track.

In the liner notes, Cody explains a bit about how he decided to make this album…

I began telling my sister, “Hey Sis, I’m ready to do this for real this time!” She was very encouraging and said, “you should!” I love my sister to death and she is one of my best friends. But let’s face the facts – being a shadow of someone isn’t always the most pleasant path to tread. So many times I received the famous saying, “Hey! You’re Sierra Hull’s brother right?” I knew then, I wanted to find my own identity. I then began writing and brain-storming. I had songs I had started, but never finished. I had those I’d finished, but wasn’t sure they defined me and what I was going for. I also knew that I couldn’t make a CD filled with songs that had been recorded hundreds of times before. We all know that you have one chance at a first impression. So I began writing songs that had been inspired by events in my own life and stories originated by my own imagination.
