Registration open for KSMU Youth in Bluegrass

Silver Dollar CityRegistrations are now being accepted for the 2014 KSMU Youth in Bluegrass Band Contest, held during the annual Bluegrass and BBQ festival at Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO.

The competition, which awards $4000 in prize money over 5 places, will be held on May 24 in the park. To be eligible, all musicians must be 21 years old or younger, though parents are allowed to participate as well.

According to the official rules, acts in the contest will be judged according to:

  • Instrumental ability (in time, in tune, degree of difficulty) 25%
  • Vocal ability (in time, in tune, degree of difficulty) 25%
  • Professionalism (wardrobe, smiles, eye contact, movement, working the microphone) 25%
  • Audience appeal (based on audible response) 25%.

Completed applications must be filed by March 15, 2014, and each each group selected will receive free admission to Silver Dollar City on contest day. Bands will perform twice during that day.

Prizes will be awarded as follows:

  • First place – $1,200
  • Second place – $1,000
  • Third Place – $800
  • Fourth place – $600
  • Fifth place – $400
