Randall Hibbitts leaving Ralph Stanley

Event Details

Randall HibbittsRandall Hibbitts, who has been playing bass with Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys this past few years, has announced today that he is leaving that position.

The southwest Virginia native says that he is going to work in event promotion, though it is possible that you will find him touring more with his own band. Hibbitts released a solo project in 2014 called Traveler which featured his lead singing on a set of solid bluegrass songs.

He shared this message earlier today with fans and friends…

“I just want everyone to know what playing with this man has meant to me and that’s why it is with a heavy heart that I make this announcement today that I will be moving on from the Clinch Mountain Boys to pursue other musical adventures and promoting festivals such as the James Wimmer Bristol Bluegrass Spring fest. I really appreciate Dr. Ralph Stanley for every opportunity that he has placed before me and will always treasure the memories made as a Clinch Mountain Boy.”

The Spring Fest is held in April, meant to celebrate the start of the festival season in Bristol, VA. I attended in 2015 and found it to be extremely well run in its first year, with a stellar lineup of traditional and contemporary bluegrass acts.
