Pickin’ On Vince Gill

Vince Gill is among the batch of pop, rock and country stars to be “picked on” by the folks at CMH Records. Their growing library of titles in this Pickin’ On series is bearing down on 200 releases, each containing bluegrass instrumental treatments of the hit recordings of popular artists from other genres.

CMH released their first volume of Vince Gill tributes in Pickin’ On Vince Gill back in 2004, and Volume 2 is due for release on February 21 of 2006. Songs on this new CD include bluegrass covers of Never Knew Lonely, Pretty Little Adriana, What The Cowgirls Do and Which Bridge to Cross (Which Bridge to Burn) along with eight others.

Speaking of CMH and the Pickin’ On CDs, we also received a note from our friends with Cornbred Red, who have recorded several of these projects. In 2005, they had five tribute projects with CMH: Pick This Way (Aerosmith), Pickin on Franz Ferdinand, Pickin on Nickleback, Green Day Bluegrass (Greenday), Pickin on Def Leppard, and A Bluegrass Tribute To Linkin Park.

Stan Dailey with Cornbred Red added a few comments about what they are working on now:

“We’re in the studio working on a Reliant K tribute right now. We like rock and country music, and LOVE turning it into BLUEGRASS!!! After this project we have two more already in the wings to start on. So, right now we’re pretty busy in the studio plus looking at doing some touring this year!”
