Laurie video from Chris Jones

Event Details

Chris Jones

In case you haven’t had a sufficient Chris Jones fix today, here’s the new music video he has just released along with his trusty Night Drivers. It’s for Laurie, the opening track from their latest album, Run Away Tonight, available now from Mountain Home Records.

Jones wrote the song with bandmate Jon Weisberger, and we wondered whether he came up the idea for the song itself, or the the catchy old-timey lick that punctuates the track first.

“The instrumental signature came first. One of those things that popped into my head while (night) driving. I recorded it as soon as I could so I wouldn’t forget it. Then I felt like a two-syllable girl’s name just lended itself to the old-time feel of the song I was envisioning. I involved Jon Weisberger, who, like me, is an Uncle Dave Macon fan, and we just proceeded with that kind of song in mind, but with a more contemporary spin.

‘Laurie’ was my initial name idea because I didn’t know any ‘Laurie’ songs, and I just like the name, but I was open to ideas. Jon wanted to stick with it because it’s a name that seemed to fit all my time in Scotland over the past year. We wrote more verses than we needed, so maybe we need to save them and write a ‘Laurie II.’ “

We’ll be on the lookout for the sequel.
