It’s About Tyme coming in September

its_about_tymeRussell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out have announced a September 4 release for their latest CD, It’s About Tyme. This will be their first album of new material since Prime Tyme in 2011. Their most recent was Timeless Hits From The Past Bluegrassed, an album of covers which they did for Cracker Barrel in 2013.

It will also be the initial project with new members Blake Johnson and Keith McKinnon, whose entry marked the first lineup change in this remarkably stable group in many years.

The guys have selected songs from some of the most popular writers in bluegrass. Milan Miller, whose Pretty Little Girl From Galax was a prior hit for IIIrd Tyme Out has contributed a new one for this record (Poison Cove), as have Mark Brinkman and Becky Buller (Cotton Town), Daivd Norris (Sweet Mountain Rose), and Josh Miller (Enough For You). There is also a cover of River Bottom, originally cut by The Country Gentlemen in 1981, and a reworking of The Carter Family’s Are You Tired of Me My Darling.

Russell Morre has written one for the album, I’m Leaving You And Fort Worth Too, which opens the record. And the band has created a new a cappella showcase, their arrangement of the Sam Cooke classic, You Send Me.

Around the September 4 release date, fans will have the chance to hear the entire album on SiriusXM during Track by Track with Kyle Cantrell on Bluegrass Junction (channel 61). The band joined Kyle in the studio to talk It’s About Tyme, and play through all 14 tracks. Look for that to air on the following schedule (all times eastern):

  • Wednesday, September 2 – 11:00 a.m.
  • Thursday, September 3 – 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, September 5 – 8:00 a.m.
  • Sunday, September 6 – noon

A special release date concert has been scheduled at Birthplace of Country Music Museum in Bristol, VA on the 4th, which will include a live radio interview with Tony Lawson on WBCM. The show begins at 7:00 p.m. and will air locally at 100.1 FM. IIIrd Tyme Out fans worldwide can attend online through a live stream hosted from the museum website.

Pre-orders for It’s About Tyme are available now from the band web site.
