Innisfree video from Joe Walsh

walshNortheastern US mandolinist Joe Walsh has released a live performance video of one of the songs on his new solo project, Borderlands. The album features a mix of Joe’s original songs and tunes, along with a number of classics from the old time repertoire.

Bluegrass fans have been following Walsh since his time as mandolinist with The Gibson Brothers, through to his work these days with Darol Anger in Mr. Sun, and his current solo efforts. These days Joe also serves as mandolin instructor at the Berklee College of music in Boston.

For the video, Joe has chosen one of the tracks, a co-write across time between he and Irish poet William Butler Yeats. Walsh has written a melody for a very brief Yeats poem, perfectly suited for songification, called The Lake Isle of Innisfree. On the album, the resulting piece is titled simply Innisfree.

He recorded it along with Bruce Molsky on guitar, Darol Anger on fiddle, and Brittany Karlson on bass.

Borderlands is available now wherever fine acoustic music is sold, or directly from Joe online.
