Coda Mountain Academy adds bluegrass

Brandon GreenAnother successful infiltration for bluegrass music…

We heard recently from Brandon Green, lecturer and band director in the ETSU Bluegrass, Old Time and Country Music program, about a music camp in West Virginia where he teaches. It’s called the Coda Mountain Academy, and they offer an intensive 2 week residential camp for young musicians from June 16-29 in Fayetteville, WV.

Brandon tells us that the camp started five years ago as an opportunity for up and coming classical music students to tune up their skills during the summer break, focusing on strings, piano and brass. In 2012 they expanded to include a bluegrass track, and he had a full slate of middle and high school fiddlers, guitar pickers and such under his wing.

The bluegrass component went so well that Coda Mountain has made it a permanent part of their course offerings.

Applications must be received by June 10, and an audition recording is required. Scholarship assistance is also available. Full details can be found online.
