Carolina Chocolate Drops – Country Girl video

Leaving Eden - Carolina Chocolate DropsNonesuch has released a music video from Leaving Eden, the latest album from Carolina Chocolate Drops.

The video is for Country Girl, featuring fiddler Rhiannon Giddens on a song she wrote exploring the pull of home and rural roots.

With bandmates Dom Flemons and Hubby Jenkins, who are also prominent in the video, the Chocolate Drops seek to reclaim the black American contributions to the Appalachian/Piedmont string band sound, while performing and recording new music of their own creation.

Country Girl is now available through CMT.com online.

This is nice, and this sounds like it belongs on country radio. She’s got a great voice, but she can wail on the 5 string banjo. Why is it ALWAYS the song chosen for country radio is the one that minimizes or eliminates the 5 string banjo?

It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got 5 strings!
