East Tennessee’s Gravy Records, a subsidiary of Sound Biscuit Productions, has been on something of a signing spree, bringing a number of new artists on board to help develop their careers.
The latest is a duo from their region going as The Backrow Brothers, who combine their love for bluegrass and duet harmony with a wide range of traditional country and western sounds. In fact, they are not brothers in the familial sense, but only in their shared focus on acoustic music.
Josh Dean plays guitar, and Braxton Rogers banjo, with both contributing to the singing duties. Both have been involved with bluegrass for several years, despite their youth. The two met while both were working separately as solo street performers in Gatlinburg, TN, and decided that two heads might be better than one.
Braxton had actually been profiled in Bluegrass Today three years ago while he was still living in Oklahoma. Josh had a recent star turn at the Future Farmers of America’s National Convention, where he sang his original song, Blue Jacket, in Lucas Oil Stadium where the Indianapolis Colts play football.
The team at Gravy Records have high hopes for their new charges.
“We’re excited to welcome The Backrow Brothers to Gravy Records. Josh and Braxton bring a genuine passion for songwriting and performance, and we believe they have the foundation to grow into something really special.”
Here they are on Blue Plate Special on WDVX in Knoxville…
…and dropping a piece of Louvin Brothers nostalgia in Chattanooga.
We look forward to hearing more from The Backrow Brothers soon!
