Jerry Butler & the Blu-J’s were back in the studio over the weekend, getting started on an all-Gospel project slated for a late September release.
Butler is on guitar and lead vocals, with Derek Vaden on banjo and finger-style guitar, Lee Chapman on bass, and Barron Rogers on mandolin. All of the Blu-J’s assist on harmony vocals: Vaden on baritone, Chapman on tenor, and Rogers bass.
Derek sent along some photos from the weekend’s sessions, and a few words about the upcoming project.
“We’re recording a new song by Ray Edwards, as well as a Tom T. & Dixie song, a song written by my grandpa Jim Sexton, and a re-cut of our most requested song, Beyond the Rain (a Mark Brinkman song). It’s from Jerry’s time with Pine Mountain Railroad.
We are super excited to get this one on the table, as an all Gospel project has been requested by the fans for quite some time. Everything is going smoothly and sounding good, so we hope to have a project that we are proud of and people will enjoy.”
