You may known them as The Meyer Family, Meyer Bluegrass Band, or perhaps simply as The Meyers. Either way, these four talented young siblings now officially branded as Meyerband are among the most closely-watched up-and-comers in bluegrass music.
Early notice came in 2009 when they won the Youth In Bluegrass competition during Silver Dollar City’s Bluegrass & BBQ festival. In 2013 they picked up the top trophy at the SPBGMA International Band Competition. Now that their first recording has been released, a lot more folks are likely to discover their crisp picking, and tight three-part harmony.
The band consists of John Meyer (21) on banjo, David Meyer (19) on guitar, Mary Meyer (17) on mandolin, and Jimmy Meyer (15) on bass. All but Jimmy take turns with lead and harmony vocals. Originally from Missouri, the family has moved now to the Nashville area to accommodate their budding bluegrass career.
And in addition to their very real musical skills, these Meyers are an improbably handsome lot.
Meyerband is the title of their five song EP which features the band’s bluegrass arrangements of pop and country songs, along with a Meyer original, and a strong Gospel number. The record was produced and engineered by Bil Vorndik at Mountainside Audio Labs in Nashville.
