After a big splash with their debut album, Flatt Lonesome has generated some serious anticipation for their second release. This sort-of-a-family band has been lauded for their soaring vocals, aggressive picking, and the strength of their material.
They have been in the studio recently, and can now announce a July 15 release for Too on the Mountain Home Music label.
Four of the six members of the band are related by blood or marriage. Buddy Robertson plays guitar and sings, along with his singing sisters Charli on fiddle and Kelsi on mandolin. Kelsi is married to banjo player Paul Harrigill, but says that bass player Dominic Illingworth and reso-guitarist Michael Stockton are like family as well.
“Since the last release, we’ve learned even more about how to be a band. We still enjoy showcasing each member on this album, but our performance as a unit has created an even stronger musical bond. We are really finding our identity as the band Flatt Lonesome.”
The band agreed to let us offer a snippet from Too, their version of JD Souther’s How Long which was originally cut by the author in 1972, and was more recently a big song for The Eagles.
