Crooked Road video from Lou Reid

Event Details

Rollin' On - Lou Reid & CarolinaLou Reid & Carolina have a music video for The Crooked Road, a song on their new Rollin’ On CD, written by Ellen Britton and the late Will Hopkins.

The song, and the video, celebrate The Crooked Road, Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail which invites traditional music lovers worldwide to visit the many smaller cities and communities in southwestern Virginia where Appalachian music and folkways are celebrated year round.

Jack Hinshelwood, executive director of The Crooked Road, is delighted to see the song get some attention.

“If we had commissioned someone to write a song to capture the essence of The Crooked Road and our annual Mountains of Music Homecoming event, they couldn’t have done better than the song on this record. To have one of the most admired groups in bluegrass pay homage to Virginia’s music heritage in a song of this caliber is truly special.”

Co-writer Britton shared a few words about how the song came to be.

“The song was Will’s idea and he grew up along The Crooked Road in Rocky Mount, Virginia. I loved the song from the start and thought the name itself was evocative. It speaks to the contrast between our modern and somewhat hectic way of life and a slower way of living. With that basic idea as the starting point, writing the song came easy. That was a song that wanted to be written.”

Rollin’ On is available now from Lou’s web site, and wherever bluegrass CDs and downloads are sold. It is offered to radio programmers at Airplay Direct.
