Reaping the Blues from Backline

Event Details

Backline

We’ve raved for some time about South Carolina grassers Backline, and their terrific lead vocalist and primary songwriter, Katelyn Ingardia. They continue getting more widespread attention, and we hope that their new partnership with Mountain Fever Records will be the push that they need.

A new single is on tap this month, another from their upcoming debut project with the new label.

Katelyn says that this isn’t one of her songs.

Reaping the Blues is a song I wish I had the chance to write, but I didn’t. A good friend of ours, Cory Wharton, wrote this tune. I have known about the song for a few years. Our former banjo player, Zach Carter, played it for us and I just remeber the first time I heard it, I was blown away. The hook line did just that, hooked me big time.

‘I sowed my heart, now I’m reaping the blues.’ Who hasn’t been there before right? The imagery of his writing, the relatability of the lyrics, I just fell in love with it.

So when we were looking at material for this album, Reaping the Blues was at the top of my list!

We appreciate Cory letting us record this one, and hope listeners and audiences will love it as much as we do!”

More of a ballad, Reaping the Blues moves along slowly with Ingardia out front. Support comes from bandmates David Heavner on mandolin and Chris Williamson on bass. Jeff Partin helps out on guitar and reso-guitar.

Have a listen.

Reaping the Blues is available now from popular download and streaming services online. Radio programmers are invited to contact Mountain Fever for an airplay copy.
