The Fields of Gettysburg from Larry Sparks

Event Details

Larry Sparks

Rebel Records has shared another single from their current project with bluegrass legend Larry Sparks.

It’s The Fields of Gettysburg, one written by Gary Ferguson and Niall Toner, a haunting song about the fateful Battle of Gettysburg during the US Civil War. History records it as bloody and fiercely fought, leaving 50,000 casualties behind over three days in 1863.

Sparks recalls that it touched him immediately.

“I’ve always been drawn to songs that tell a real story, and Fields of Gettysburg hit me hard the first time I heard it. Gary Ferguson and Niall Toner captured the sorrow, sacrifice, and human side of history in a way that feels honest and timeless. Songs like this remind us that bluegrass music can preserve stories and emotions that still matter today.”

Recorded with his touring band, the track features Larry on guitar and lead vocal, Evan Wilson on mandolin, Tyler Mullins on banjo, Mike Feagan on fiddle, and Larry D. Sparks on bass.

Nobody delivers a mournful ballad like Sparks, and this one proves the point as well as any.

Have a listen.

The Fields of Gettysburg, and the full Way Back When album, are available now from popular download and streaming services online, and to radio programmers via AirPlay Direct.

Audio CDs can be purchased directly from the artist.
