Mark Johnson on Letterman with Steve Martin

As part of being awarded the 2012 Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass, Florida clawhammerer Mark Johnson will appear on The Late Show with David Letterman September 24.

As was the case with prior honorees Noam Pikelny and Sammy Shelor, Martin will also be a guest on the show, and he and Mark will perform as musical guests that night. Johnson tells us that his musical duet partner, Emory Lester, will fly down from Canada to tape the spot as well.

The Late Show airs on CBS television at 11:35 (ET/PT). Full episode and selected segments typically appear online the next day.

Steve will also be in attendance during the IBMA’s World of Bluegrass in Nashville that same week, and will be shuffling off to Music City after the Letterman taping on the 24th.
