Dudley Connell melts the switchboard

Over this past weekend, WAMU’s Bluegrass Country ran the first 3 hours of the lengthy interviews they are conducting with Dudley Connell. He spoke in depth with Katy Daley and Lee Michael Dempsey about having grown up in the DC bluegrass scene, and his time as a young man with Johnson Mountain Boys.

The response was immediate and overwhelming. Katy tells us that they started getting glowing emails right away, followed by a string of enthusiastic comments on Facebook. This reaction has led Bluegrass Country programmers to schedule a pair of follow-ups broadcasts this week. The Connell interview will run again this morning (2/25) from 8:00-11:00 a.m. (EST), and again on Sunday (2/28) from 3:00-6:00 p.m.

In addition to a plateful of personal stories, Dudley shares some rare audio of him playing with Buzz Buzby, plus the very first recording done by the Johnson Mountain Boys, cut in the WAMU studios by Gary Henderson. Katy said that they will record anotehr interview with Dudley soon, where he will hold forth on his time with Seldom Scene.

Catch the show, and all of WAMU’s 24/7 bluegrass feed, at www.bluegrasscountry.org. Sounds like can’t miss radio to me.
