Winfield update

Winfield 2008 - photo by Bill StarzWe posted twice over the weekend with news about how Hurricane Ike and its aftermath has affected the big Walnut Valley Festival scheduled to start tomorrow (9/17) in Winfield, KS.

Local officials closed the campground on Friday, forcing early campers to flee for higher ground, and flooding on site will preclude any on-site camping this week.

The most recent press releases from the festival says…

The City of Winfield is permitting campers to stay at the Winfield City Lake. There is plenty of room for campers, and a limited number of electric hook ups.

The festival organizers have made arrangements with the Winfield School District to provide shuttle service to and from the off-grounds camping areas and festival proper. There will also be "Park and Ride" shuttle buses running from the downtown parking lots as well as the Winfield High School parking lot to and from the festival.

Up-to-date info will be available on the Walnut Valley Festival website at www.wvfest.com.
