Pert Near Sandstone – Solid Gone

Pert Near Sandstone is a string band from Minnesota’s Twin Cities who play a raucous blend of bluegrass and old time music. Their fourth CD, Paradise Hop, is due November 15 as an independent release.

The band consists of Nate Sipe on mandolin and fiddle, Kevin Kneibel on banjo, J Lenz on guitar, Adam Kiesling on bass, and Andy Lambert on washboard. Their live show has won raves before a wide range of audiences, and takes them to both traditional music events and large-capacity rock venues.

We asked about the band’s odd moniker, and got this response from Sipe:

“We’ve always found ourselves inexplicably drawn to the Mississippi River where we feel a kinship with the bluffs that guide the mighty flow from Minnesota to Louisiana; Pert Near Sandstone.”

PNS has a music video in advance of the CD, for the song Solid Gone, a band original that takes the classic fiddle tune Sail Away Ladies as its foundation.
