Me and John and Paul – The Bluegrass Beatles?

Event Details

Here’s a great photo that was sent to us via email. Though details are sketchy, it has long been rumored that the Beatles had initially wavered between bluegrass and rhythm and blues as the vehicle for their musical energies. They had been frank about their admiration for American folk and blues, and it was said that they moonlighted occasionally as a bluegrass band called The Weevils.

This is purported to be a very rare photo taken during one of these performances. Unfortunately, due to contract restrictions with Capitol Records, they never released a bluegrass album. We understand they may have filmed one episode of The Andy Griffith Show, but that the show’s producers were uncomfortable with the thick Liverpudlian accents.
