Bluegrass at The Kennedy Center

Josh Kohn with the National Council for the Traditional Arts reminded us about a show tonight (10/12) by Linda Lay & Springfield Exit at The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.

Linda has been a fixture on the bluegrass scene for many years, both with Springfield Exit and as a member of Appalachian Trail in the 1980s. She will be performing this evening on bass and vocals with David Lay on guitar, David McLaughlin on mandolin, and Sammy Shelor on banjo.

Linda and Sammy recorded an album together in 2007, Taking The Crooked Road Home, released through the Virginia Folklife Program – as part of the promotion for Virginia’s Crooked Road Music Heritage Trail.

If you live in or near DC, today’s 6:00 p.m. concert is free and open to the public.

The rest of us can watch the show online, via live streaming on the Kennedy Center web site, starting at 6:00 (EDT).

Kohn and the NCTA are also responsible for the annual Richmond Folk Festival in Richmond, VA. Certainly not an all-bluegrass event, but with a number of strong grass acts and an instrumental competition sure to interest our readers in the area.
